Resus Bed (Life Isn't Always a Bed of Roses)

Atop this resus bed
I have seen
different faces of death.
Black and white,
natives and foreigners,
young and old,
rich and poor...

Atop this resus bed
I have also watched
how different patients fought hard
in an unmatched ordeal-
against the claws of death...
then survived...

Around this resus bed
I have witnessed
different emotions
from relatives of our dying patients.
I have seen their countless tears.
I felt mixed emotions too
but I know
their grief is greater...

Around this resus bed
I have heard different stories and
questions
How...?
Why...?
When...?
Where...?
What...?
But the greatest question as always-
"Is it worth saving this patient?"

Around this resus bed
I work
with different groups of doctors and nurses.
I follow different orders.
I observed different approaches and attitudes.
But the goal is in unison-
to revive a dying patient
to save
a life...

Around this resus bed
is my war zone
the testing place
for my skills,
knowledge and
attitude
towards life and
death...

I have realized
Life isn't always a bed of roses...
And
There is no medicine,
no machine,
no doctors and nurses,
no special procedure
that are good enough
to prevent death.
It is inevitable indeed.

If a patient survives,
it is never
and will never be
because of the act of resuscitation itself.
It is only because
of God's will
to grant one more chance
one more life

to pursue His purpose and plans.
